![]() He kept it, and made regular use of it, for decades, and really only needed a little bit of stern prodding from Gandalf to give it up after all that time. Bilbo proved to be far more resistant to the ring's influence. I think what grates people the wrong way with Frodo is those are pretty much his only outstanding attributes. And once he makes a decision, he intends to see it through or die trying. Basically every single decision he makes is the correct one. Its a big moment of realization for him other characters might have just turned and bolted from the crazy woman talking about ruling the universe.įrodo's most important attribute is his judgment and determination. There's a sense of understanding between the Elf and the hobbit- even when Galadriel is freaking out when Frodo offers the Ring he doesn't seem overly intimidated. He only receives reinforcement of his decision from Galadriel. I think that going into that scene Frodo is resolved to continue- alone. If you want to talk movies, I've always interpreted the scene between Galadriel and Frodo to be a sort of meeting of equals in a strange way. I think he understands a lot more than many people give him credit for. He is determined to destroy the Ring and doesn't give in until the very end. More than anything, Frodo has a stone will. Merry's adventurous and mature and brave like Frodo but less empathetic to others I believe. He also didn't really care about much other than Frodo's wellbeing and was far too blunt to ever parry words with the likes of the Elves or Faramir. Sam was far too uncompassionate to the common being to have taken Frodo's role- guy would have just killed Gollum before he could ever be of any help. Until late he usually is making the right decisions. The perfect mishmash of personality traits and upbringing. He understands that the Ring is his burden and that there is no use dragging along the rest of the Fellowship even though they might bring him temporary security and guidance.įrodo was literally the only person suitable for carrying the Ring. He rides Glorfindel's horse and is prepared to make a last stand of sort after crossing the Bruinen before Elrond and Gandalf's flood washes the Nazgul away and Frodo passes out. Of the Hobbits, he's the only one to stand up to the Nazgul at Weathertop. He saves the Hobbits' asses in the Old Forest and in the Barrow-Downs by being the only one who isn't put under the spell of Old Man Willow and the Barrows. He basically drags Sam and Pippin through their initial encounters with the Nazgul. He isn't the stumbling over his own feet Elijah Wood like in the movies. The real character of Frodo is quite brave. There are other Tolkien-themed subreddits out there!
